The kabuki actor Nakayama Tomisaburo in the role of Miyagino. Most probably a reprint from the late nineteenth century.
Sharaku’s works were produced within one year, so that very soon numerous reprints and variants were published. There was an exceptional demand from western collectors, which is why so many variants were put on the souvenir and art market in the Meiji period. (From the publication: Ukiyo-e Reloaded. The MAK Collection of Japanese Colored Woodblock prints. Edited by Peter Noever, with contributions by Brigitte Moser, Beate Murr and Johannes Wieninger).
