The Bloch-Bauer/Pick Collection is the only Viennese collection of its kind that has survived the terror of the Nazi regime in this unity. Their special value lies in high-quality individual pieces that can provide information about the artistry of bygone eras. Collected from dealers and at auctions in Vienna, Berlin and Paris between 1900 and 1938, it bears witness to a world violently destroyed by false prophets. This world, mainly supported by the Jewish upper bourgeoisie, was the subtly cultivated Vienna of the early 20th century, one of the most creative laboratories of modernity.
