Design: Utagawa Toyokuni I. (1769–1825)
Around 1810.

The play “Shibaraku” is one of the most popular plays performed by the actors of the Ichikawa family. The content of the play varies, but the words “Stop!” (shibaraku) always mark the climax when the hero fights off the attackers and saves those in danger. Typical for the role is the red robe with extra-long trousers and large sleeves on which the Ichikawa family coat of arms can be seen, as well as the long sword and the pointed hat like Ichikawa Danjuro VII wears here.
