The book for the exhibition KLIMTS TEACHER in the MAK (Nov. 2021–March 2022)

Hardly any other artist has been written about as much as Gustav Klimt. The formative influence of his time studying at the Vienna School of Applied Arts has received far too little attention. The MAK is now taking on this topic. Ferdinand Laufberger, whom Klimt admired as a professor throughout his life, has a priority. In addition to this, the Ringstrasse artists Ludwig Minnigerode, Friedrich Sturm and Michael Rieser also left their mark on Klimt's work as teachers. Undoubtedly through the encouragement of Rudolf Eitelberger, modern artists - such as Anselm Feuerbach - have also had a lasting impact on Klimt's artistic intention. The exhibition is dedicated to the impact of this time at the arts and crafts school on Klimt's early work. Exhibits from the MAK's rich holdings, shown for the first time, are supplemented by loans from international collections and show the interaction of Klimt's training with his further artistic development. interpreted.
