The Vienna Museum of Applied Arts (MAK) holds a unique collection of Italian majolica from the 15th to 18th centuries, which is now being published almost completely here for the first time. Majolica tableware, Italy's luxury export, had spread to the courts of Northern Europe by the early 16th century. The MAK's holdings from former imperial, ecclesiastical, princely and private possessions now enter into dialogue with majolica from well-known Austrian and Central European collections. Timothy Wilson, Professor Emeritus at Balliol College Oxford and former Keeper of Western Art at the Ashmolean Museum Oxford, as well as Rainald Franz, Curator at the MAK, and other experts provide a wide-ranging insight into the development of majolica in their cultural and historical context. One of the world's best majolica collections is being made scientifically accessible for the first time.

With contributions from Rainald Franz, Michael Göbl, Nikolaus Hofer and Timothy Wilson
